What is eros love mentioned in the Bible? What scriptures talk about it?

What is Eros Love?

The Greeks had four words for the word love and one of those words was “eros” hence we get the English word “erotic” and it means romantic or intimate love and usually involves the physical and sensual love found between a husband and a wife. Eros comes from the mythological Greek god Eros and was the god of love, the god of sexual desire, physical attraction, and physical love. It was believed that Eros was the son of Aphrodite who would have interfered with the affairs of the gods and mankind, causing the mutual erotic bonds of love at the level of sexual arousal.

The abuse of Eros

Jesus once said that anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in their heart and specifically said “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.“(Mt 5, 27-28) and if your hand or your eye causes you to stumble, as in the lust of the heart,”better if you lose one of your limbs than your whole body goes to hell”(Mt 5:30). Of course, if someone looks at a man with the same lustful intent, the same applies if a man covets a woman and commits adultery with her in his heart.

Kill lust

It is said that believers are new creations or creatures in Christ, as Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old one is deceased; behold, the new has arrived“and so we must”So put to death what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, bad desire and lust, which is idolatry.“(Col 3: 5) because it is”It is because of them that the wrath of God comes ”(Col 3, 6) and“ It is in them also that you walked formerly, when you lived there. But now you have to put them all away“(Col 3: 7-8) from”For freedom, Christ set us free; therefore stand firm and no longer submit to the yoke of slavery(Ga 5: 1).

The fate of sexually immoral people

There is bad news for those who refuse to repent of their sins, especially sexual sins which are called sexual immorality and cover adultery, fornication and even lust in the heart. Paul indicates that “the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality“(Ga 5,19) for which Paul says”I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God“(Ga 5:21) for”those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires(Ga 5:24). Paul also warned that “sexual immorality and any impurity or lust are not even to be named among you, as it is among the saints“(Eph 5, 3) and”you can be sure of this, that anyone who is sexually immoral or unclean, or who is greedy (i.e. an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.“(Ep 5, 5) and”Do not take part in the fruitless works of darkness, but rather expose them. Cause it’s shameful even to talk about the things they do in secret“(Eph 5,11-12).

Judgment of god

Everyone will die and after that they will face the judgment of God (Heb 9:27) but for those who have repented and put their trust in Christ they are not afraid of condemnation (Rom 8: 1) “since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ(Rom 5: 1) but for those who have never trusted Christ their fate is almost beyond description (Rev 20: 12-15) and for those who have lived a life of sexual immorality. All their life “their part will be in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death(Rev 21: 8). That is why we are warned to “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins that a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against his own body.“(1 Cor 6,18)

The unblemished marriage bed

The love of Eros is completely permitted within the limits of marriage as the author of the Hebrews says “May marriage be honored among all, and the marriage bed to be undefiled, for God will judge those who are sexually immoral and adulterous.“(Heb 13: 4) but”Neither sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who have sex with men … will not inherit the kingdom of God.“(1 Co 6,9) therefore”See that no one is sexually immoral(Heb 12:16). That is why married couples should “do not deprive each other, except perhaps by mutual agreement for a limited time, in order to devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control“(1 Cor 7, 5) this is why”The woman does not have authority over her own body but cedes it to her husband. Likewise, the husband does not have authority over his own body but cedes it to his wife.»(1 Cor 7, 4).

Conclusion

Sex is a creation of God and is not only intended for procreation, but for enjoyment, which is what Solomon meant when he wrote “May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the woman of your youth, a beautiful doe, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you with delight at any time; always get drunk on his love“(Prov 5: 18-19) therefore”why get drunk with another man’s wife? Why kiss the breast of a rebellious woman“(Prov 5:20) because”an adulterous woman is a deep well, and a rebellious woman is a narrow well”(Prov 23:27) and of course what applies to the adulterous woman also applies to the adulterous man. For those who refuse to repent of sexual immorality, the time of judgment is all they can expect at the end (Rev 21: 8).
