The Benefits of Having a Parent-Child Dedication Class

One of the ways you can have a big impact in the lives of parents and their children is to offer a parent and child dedication course.

Here are some of the benefits of hosting a course.

You can help young parents see that they are the biggest influence in their child’s life.. Most Christian parents don’t think about that. They feel a sense of duty to raise their child in church, but don’t really understand how important their role is.

At every Parent and Dedication class, I remind parents of this simple yet powerful truth.

No one has more influence in a child’s life than their parents.

You can help parents see that dedication is as much about them as it is about their children. That’s why it’s important to call it a PARENT and Child Dedication Course.

You can give parents a plan to discipline their children. Deuteronomy 6 shares 4 ways to train your kids in an ordinary day.

> Morning time

> Home time (when you’re home just to hang out)

> Driving time

> Bedtime

You can help parents see what dedication is not. It is not part of their salvation. This is not baptism. It is not a ritual or a spectacle.

You can help parents see what dedication is. This is the time to dedicate their children to Jesus. This is the time to pray a blessing over their children. This is a time to ask the congregation to support parents in their child’s discipleship by praying for them, serving in key roles in children’s ministry, and encouraging them along the way.

It is a time to share the Gospel with parents, extended family and friends. The parent and child dedication is a great opportunity to share the gospel with parents and family, friends, coworkers, and more. who are invited to attend the dedication.

It helps parents see what matters most. Parents with young children are always forming the schedule, activities, events, etc. of their child. The dedication of parents and children is a great time to help parents see what matters most.

Now is a great time to help parents see the importance of faithful church attendance.. There are many options that require time and resources from families. One of the greatest assets is sports. Sport is a good thing, but not when it makes families miss church for weeks. It is crucial that you help young families understand that church attendance should be their top priority on weekends.

Now is a great time to connect with your church families. When families take the course with you, it creates a bond with them. It will pay off now and in the years to come. Have everything set up a head of time so you can spend time talking with the parents before and after the dedication.

This is a great time to review the logistics of the dedication whether it’s taking place during a church service or at another location.. Where they should sit. When they should come ahead. Where they should stand. What will happen during the dedication.

It’s the perfect time to give families a gift to remember the day in. Some ideas are a Bible. A devotional book. A parenting book. A framed portrait.

Last weekend I had the privilege of teaching this class at my church. This Sunday we will have the honor of dedicating the children and their parents to Jesus. I can not wait. It’s going to be awesome.
