Ida Odinga, the wife of ODM chief Raila Odinga, says she gave her husband carte blanche to embark on a vigorous political campaign ahead of the 2022 general election.
Speaking at the Azimio la Umoja convention at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi on Friday, December 10, Ida “ceded” Raila to the Kenyans as the couple covered each other with messages of love from the podium.
“I want to set you free to play and do what you need to do for the people who are here [at Kasarani Stadium], and those who are not here, ”she said.
On Friday, Raila declared his interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, when the head of state’s term of office expires in October 2022.
Ida, who called Odinga a ‘good friend and dear husband’, said she trusted the former prime minister, saying she believed he would not let down the Kenyan people if he won the presidency .
“AT wananchi, people of Kenya, I release Raila to you today, ”she said to the cheers of the crowd.
“As a good friend and as my dear husband, someone I have known for many years, I know what he is capable of,” Ida added.
According to the wife of the ODM chief, a Raila presidency would carefully examine the education and health of Kenyans.
“These are your people. I know you won’t let them down, ”Ida stressed.
“The only thing he (Raila) has is love for this nation. It’s love for the people of Kenya. He thinks Kenya can be a good place, better than us. have today, I know he is capable of making Kenya a good place.
“Most of these young people need meaningful jobs that can only happen if we resuscitate our industries like tourism, mining and agriculture. We have to pull ourselves together. My dear friend, Raila, I know you are capable of doing this and many more.
While revisiting old memories in detention, Raila, who called Ida “the woman of my youth and partner to death”, thanked the spouse for being by her side during the difficult times.
“There is a positive side to my story. This is a personal friend… Alando (dark-haired woman), a woman of legendary beauty and courageous heart from Lwanda Magere. And this is the woman who supported me when many avoided me. She is the wife of my youth, the love of my life and my companion to death, ”Odinga said in his speech.
“In these difficult times of long and uncertain incarceration, if I did not read the Holy Bible, I found deep comfort in the love and support of Mama Ida.
“She has become a constant guest in police cells through constant arrests and harassment. I can’t thank her enough. Thank you darling.”
Raila Odinga will run for the presidency for the fifth time after four unsuccessful candidacies in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017.
He is expected to face Vice President William Ruto.
