A Bible verse is by far the most popular on the planet.

A survey by a charity World Vision found two million people google John 3:16 each month.

This is no surprise to biblical scholars.

They say it is a concise and clear summary of the gospel in just 26 words: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life (NIV).

The verse is also widely used on social media platforms.

On Instagram, the hashtag #John316 has been used on over 250,000 posts on TikTok #John316 has been viewed nearly 56 million times.

World Vision examined Google search data for the 100 most read Bible verses country by country.

Globally Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:13 came in a distant tie for second.

Jeremiah 29:11: ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to make you prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Philippians 4:13:: I can do all this through the One who gives me strength (NIV).

They were followed by John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it fully (NIV).

Rounding up the top five was Proverbs 3:5: Trust the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding (NIV).

In Australia Joshua 1:9 was the second most popular search.

It reads: Didn’t I command you? Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (NIV).

Just behind was Jeremiah 29:11 followed by Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (NIV).

The composition of Australia’s top five verses is John 14:6: Jesus replied, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (NIV).
