Kylian Mbappe shows class with superb finish to put PSG ahead of Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe put Paris Saint-Germain in firm control of their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid after producing a clinical finish in the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid at the end of the season and all eyes were on the France international on Wednesday night.

Mbappe was the better performer in the first half and deservedly put PSG ahead after 39 minutes to give them a 2-0 lead on aggregate in the draw.

After being played through on goal by an early pass from Neymar, Mbappe beat Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois with a post finish before celebrating in trademark style.

Courtois previously denied Mbappe twice earlier in the game, while the Frenchman also saw a goal disallowed for offside.

PSG also got closer in the first half through former Barcelona star Lionel Messi, with the opposing team continually threatening on the counterattack.

Madrid nearly scored through Karim Benzema but PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma beautifully denied the France international with a diving one-handed save.

After the break, Mbappe was denied another goal for offside before the game was spectacularly overturned by Benzema.

The 34-year-old scored three goals in 17 second-half minutes to snatch a 3-1 victory on the night at Madrid, sending them into the last eight with a 3-2 aggregate win.

The 23-year-old striker is out of contract this summer and could leave PSG on a free transfer.

He remains heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, which has been the subject of a series of huge offers, including a €200m (£171.7m) bid, rejected by PSG l ‘last summer.
