Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Everson Griffen shared a scary video and series of ominous messages early Wednesday morning about the possibility of being in danger. The team has since provided an update on the troubling situation.

Griffen shared screenshots on his Instagram of text messages allegedly sent by him telling him that people were trying to kill him and that he needed help. Instagram posts have since been deleted, but you can see screenshots of the text exchange below:

The 33-year-old also shared a video saying someone was trying to kill him at his home. In the video, Griffen holds a gun and explains that the gun is his, that it is registered in his name, and that his teammate Dalvin Cook helped him purchase the gun.

The Vikings issued a statement Wednesday morning on the situation:

“Vikings representatives and team mental health professionals have been on site at Everson Griffen’s home since early this morning and are cooperating with law enforcement.”

“Our only concern at this time is the safety and well-being of Everson and his family. We will have more comments when the time comes.

According to local police, Griffen refused to leave his home:

In 2018 Griffen reportedly threatened to shoot hotel staff. He agreed to be taken for mental health treatment shortly after the incident, but reports suggest he fled the ambulance.
