Chynna Phillips Wants Niece Hailey Baldwin, Justin Bieber At Her Bible Study

Chynna Phillips, of pop music trio Wilson Phillips, regularly hosts Bible study groups at her Los Angeles home. Unfortunately, her religious niece Hailey Baldwin and the model’s husband, Justin Bieber, are not participants, but Phillips wishes they were.

“That would be really fun,” the 51-year-old artist told Page Six. “These are awesome examples of what it is to be a Christian and I feel like they will help pave the way for other young people to see this in a new and see christianity is cool.” Chynna has been married since 1995 to Billy Baldwin, the brother of Hailey’s father, Stephen Baldwin.

Chynna, whose parents are music royalty – “Papa” John Phillips and Michelle Phillips of legendary ’60s band the Mamas and the Papas – is an outspoken Christian who has a YouTube channel, California Preachin’, on which she speaks candidly about her sanity and her faith.

The “Hold On” singer says she was born again at age 12 after classmates offered to pray with her. Chynna remembers having a physical reaction.

“I knew then that I had been touched by God and that Jesus was real and that Jesus was really the son of God and that I had to accept this reality because it was the truth”, a- she explained. “From that moment I knew that Jesus is Lord.”

But Chynna admits she went through a tough teenage years and abused drugs and alcohol, which she says was a “band-aid to cover up all my abandonment issues with my dad and the grief surrounding her drug use”.

John Phillips admitted there was a period in the 70s when he injected heroin every 15 minutes for two years, and he was convicted of drug trafficking in 1981. Chynna refused to discuss her half-sister Mackenzie’s allegations that Mackenzie and her father had engaged in an incestuous relationship for nearly 10 years.

The ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ actress says she felt another religious awakening shortly after the birth of Billy’s third and youngest child, daughter Brooke, in 2004.

“I had a postpartum [depression]. I was isolated and couldn’t sleep. I knew I needed help and one morning I felt enveloped by a light, by the presence of God and I felt his presence so strong in the room,” she says. “I couldn’t move, I was paralyzed by this force. I felt it realigned me. I felt it healed me and relieved my burden, pain and confusion.

“It lasted about a minute and the next morning it happened again around the same time and that’s when I knew I had to re-commit myself to Jesus Christ. I’m fell on my knees and I surrendered my heart to the Lord and I said: “You are the way, the truth and the light” I ask you to make me your vessel and put me in the world as your messenger and let me share your truth with other people.

Chynna says her husband is “extremely supportive” of her outspoken faith and shed tears when she was baptized. He was also there when their daughter Brooke and her mother, Carol, were baptized together. And regarding Hailey’s 2019 marriage to Bieber, her father, Stephen Baldwin, said before the religious affair“As Christians and as believers, they understand that if you don’t have the spirit of God working in your marriage, it becomes harder and harder to make it work, to have the peace and find happiness.”

Last year, Billy announced on Instagram that his and Chynna’s 17-year-old son Vance was quietly battling cancer and had undergone 28 rounds of chemotherapy. Luckily, he’s back in school, playing basketball, and cancer free. Phillips says she never said “Why me?” or “Why my son?”, but instead relied on her faith to get her through the ordeal.

She admits that being an outspoken Christian in Hollywood comes with “a bit of a stigma. People automatically assume you’re a fundamentalist. It’s unfortunate because I love everyone… I believe the power of love overcomes all evil.
