A five-year-old child whose parents are of the same sex has been expelled from her religious school.

Emily and Jennie Parker say the school principal informed them that their relationship “does not follow the teachings” of the institution.

They were told that their child, Zoey would be removed from class, as they began the hunt for a new school.

Emily and Jennie also say the school will only teach students that “marriage is between a man and a woman”.

Zoey was previously a student at Bible Baptist Academy, and the couple say she had lots of friends she loved there.

The Parkers recently adopted Zoey after her father died in a workplace accident in September 2020.

“She lost her dad, she lost her mom and now she’s losing her school,” Jennie told KPLC.

The family reportedly received widespread support from the community after the eviction.

The Bible Baptist Academy has since issued a statement, defending its actions.

The school says it is “committed to instructing and living in accordance with the teachings of the scriptures.”

He added, “As a Baptist academy, we are also committed to providing an environment consistent with the beliefs we share. We want our students to not only know our beliefs, but we want them to see them as well.

“When it comes to personal relationships, we believe that those relationships, whether romantic or marital, should be between a man and a woman.”

The parents try to see the bright side of things and see the incident as a “chance for change”.

“It’s a blessing in disguise,” Jennie told KPLC. “We have the opportunity to bring her to a school a little closer and it’s a new opportunity for her to make new friends.”
