California pastor chastises Governor Newsom for Bible verse on abortion billboards

California Governor Gavin Newsom has just paid for another billboard touting California’s abortion laws – the latest in Austin, Texas, features a woman sitting with her arms crossed in her lap, watching the words “Need an abortion? California is ready to help,” Fox7Austin reported Sunday. Newsom’s bulletin board also features the California abortion website,, along with a Bible verse quoting Mark 12:31, “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commitment than these.

In California, the pastor denounces “the wickedness of this murderous Newsom campaign with a wrongdoing of gross blasphemy, quoting the very words of Jesus.”

The governor, who is running for re-election and preparing to run for president, has paid billboards in Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Carolina, Dakota of the South and Texas, featuring a handcuffed woman next to the message: “[State] does not own your body. You do.” followed by the new California abortion website

Southern California pastor John MacArthur has had enough. He recently sent Governor Newsom a ruthless letter chastising the governor for profaning the words of Jesus:

“In mid-September, you revealed to the entire nation how rebellious you are against God when you sponsored billboards across America promoting the child slaughter he creates in (Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 45:9-12) You have further compounded the wickedness of this murderous campaign with a wrongful act of gross blasphemy, quoting the very words of Jesus in Mark 12: 31 as if you could somehow twist its meaning and arrogate its name to yourself in favor of the slaughter of the unborn. You used the name and words of Christ to promote the creed of Moloch (Leviticus 20 :1-5) It would be hard to imagine greater sacrilege.

You may remember Pastor John MacArthur. The Globe reported on his First Amendment fight against the state and county of Los Angeles during Governor Newsom’s Covid shutdowns of businesses, schools and churches in the state. Pastor MacArthur filed a lawsuit against LA County and won. “After state and federal courts in California issued permanent injunctions restraining the state or any of its agencies from again imposing discriminatory restrictions on all places of worship, attorneys for Pastor John MacArthur and Grace Community Church announced that California and Los Angeles County have agreed to pay $800,000 in ‘winning party’ attorneys’ fees,” the Globe reported in 2021.

In his letter to Governor Newsom, Pastor MacArthur worries that “Newsom’s own soul is in grave and eternal peril”. He tells Newsom that he has “trampled on his authority in your government” and “twisted his own Holy Word to rationalize it”. Pastor MacArthur asks, “As you gaze over the precipice of eternity, what will your answer be? When you look ahead and see that nothing awaits you but eternal misery – just punishment for your sins – then what good are all the clever rationalizations and political talking points?”

But he says, “there is salvation for those who repent.” also tells out-of-state minors how to get an abortion in California without parental permission. website explaining to minors how to have an abortion in California. (Photo:

It is indeed “twisted” and diabolical that Governor Newsom’s campaign chose to include Bible verses on abortion billboards. also reports that California law allows minors to “independently consent to their own abortion care” over parental objections. The website links to, which tells minors, “Your doctor can’t tell your parents about your health care unless you give them permission to do so,” and you “don’t have need permission from your parents or caregivers to have an abortion. if you are under 18.

Newsom has targeted other states over their abortion, transgender and LGBT policies. Over the 4th of July holiday weekend, Governor Newsom bought cable ads in Florida promoting California as LGBT-friendly, pro-abortion, taunting the Sunshine State and the Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis.

Governor DeSantis immediately fired back, mocking Governor Newsom for the hordes of Californians leaving the Golden State for the Sunshine State, saying “until the last few years I have rarely, if ever, seen a California license plate in the state of Florida. You see a lot of them now. I can tell you. If you go to California, you won’t see many Florida license plates.

Later in July, Newsom bought full-page ads in some of Texas’ biggest newspapers targeting their cardiac abortion law and gun safety record, especially in the wake of the recent shooting. at the school in Uvalde, reported the Globe.

Last month, Governor Newsom targeted Georgia and Oklahoma in Variety, advocating for the return of television and film productions from those states to California by highlighting new credits while cracking down on the states for numerous troubling laws, mainly abortion.

Newsom demonstrates that he will do just about anything to raise awareness of his name nationally, positive or negative, surely expecting media coverage.

Pastor MacArthur conveys his message to Governor Newsom:

“The scriptures also teach that it is the primary duty of every civic leader to reward those who do right and to punish wrongdoers (Romans 13:1-7). You have not only failed in this responsibility; you overturn it regularly, rewarding the wrongdoers and punishing the righteous.
