Thirteen students from Stella Maris Tanjung Aru Parish Bible Class chose to celebrate their graduation day with an outreach trip to St Theresa’s Hostel here on November 27, 2016.

The students did their fundraising for the trip by selling cupcakes, henna painting, a photo booth, selling drinks and more.

On the day they brought with them something they could share with the students such as candy boxes, clothes, stationery, toys and more. Their parents were also part of the donation.

The trip to Kota Marudu was filled with joy, prayer and excitement, some of them woke up at 4am to get ready. They arrived in Kota Marudu around 10:30 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by Sr. Jossekah. They were also greeted by the students of the hostel, all in green, with a welcome song.

Teresa Alberto, president of the PPC who also joined the trip, said she saw joy and sadness in the children. Joy when they played, danced and sang with them. Sadness when they talked about their families. Some who are as young as six years old have not seen their families for over a year.

The graduates of the Bible class said they were amazed that everyone in the hostel, from the age of six, could speak English, sing and dance well, be well disciplined and, through their smiles, bring a lot of love to all who visit them, even for the first time.

The graduation ceremony was held on Kota Belud beach. The students were silent as they not only reflected on their 11-year catechetical training journey, but felt so blessed to be able to see their loved ones every day, that they had almost everything provided for by their loved ones, and so blessed that are able to give.kkdiocese.net
