Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola quoted a Bible verse on Sunday following the conclusion of the Osun gubernatorial election.
Naija News reported earlier on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke the winner of the election.
The INEC returning officer for the Osun Governorate poll, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipemade the statement Sunday morning.
Adeleke defeated incumbent state governor and All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Gboyega Oyetola and thirteen other candidates to win the exercise.
Adeleke won 17 local government areas in the state, while APC candidate Oyetola won the remaining 13 local government areas in the state.
The incumbent governor of the state that was defeated in the election garnered 375,027 votes, while Adeleke garnered 403,371 votes to win the election.
Aregbesola, who disagreed with Oyetola, quoted a Bible verse minutes after INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the June 16 poll.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Aregbesola wrote: “This matter is by decree of the watchers and demand by the word of the saints: for the intention that the living may know that the Most High reigns over the kingdom of men, and gives it to whom he will, and sets over it, the vilest of men – (Daniel 4:17).”
Aregbesola fought with Oyetola and APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu for control of Osun State.
The minister even sponsored Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a former government secretary to compete with Oyetola in the direct party primary.
After Oyetola’s victory, Adeoti took Oyetola to court, seeking an order disqualifying him for not resigning from the party’s National Interim Committee soon enough.
The case, however, was dismissed by the court sitting on Thursday.
Then Aregbesola left the country for the United States, making himself unavailable for the election.
